What to expect :

 

The tour starts with the visit to the flower market where action starts early in the morning. Flowers from different parts of India and Gujarat some here in the morning and trading starts at dawn. You will hectic activity with buying and selling of flowers before the sun comes up and day starts. We then proceed to old city area to visit vegetables and fruit markets. This resembles the markets from the ancient times and you need to bargain hard in order to get the best deal. There are stalls as well as vegetable vendors who spread their wares and sell on the road. We then proceed to colourful market selling spices and yummy mouth fresheners

 

Next on our list would be ancient monuments. We try and capture their grandeur & beauty on lens before the sun becomes too harsh for the pictures

 

If you are lucky, you will meet with a friendly elephant on the way and you can feed the elephant !!

What to expect :

 

The tour starts with the visit to the 100 year old Swaminarayan temple and the morning aarti at the temple. Start walking through the old lanes and bylanes of the city and understand the difference between the old and modern style of living. You will see and understand the community based living system which was very much interconnected yet independent in nature. Every “Pol” has its own systems, rules and regulations. You will feel part of the history as you navigate through these lanes and guide narrates you the history of the 600 year old city.

 

You will see several bird feeders as the trees were cut to build the city and yet the planners of the city wanted it to be animal friendly. Every ‘Pol’ will have its own sets of dogs and cats and you will see them through your journey. These animals are very much part of our day to day life and woven into the fabric of the society !!!

 

You will visit a Jain temple and discover some ancient techniques for water harvesting.

 

You will then pass through old book market, vegetable market, old stock exchange building and textile markets patronized by kings and queens, several hundred yearsago. The tour end with the visit to one of the biggest mosques in the city – Juma Mosque.
